The welcome center in Sharon is going hi-tech.
The rest stop along Interstate 89 in both directions will now offer wireless Internet service to travelers. They can surf the web and get information about tourist attractions, road conditions and traffic maps.
The Williston welcome center is the only other rest stop equipped with a WiFi information hub.

The Burlington International Airport (BTV) offers free, guest-accessible, WiFi Internet access as a complimentary service to travelers passing throughout BTV’s newly expanded $28 million facility. “A major objective for the development committee was to offer world-class services for travelers at the Burlington Airport, and to have guests delighted with the overall airport experience, including simple access, superior layout, comfort, and an essential requirement for many road-warrior travelers – easy wireless access to the Internet,” said Tamara S. Gagne, BTV’s Director of Finance and Administration.
BTV chose Summit Technologies to provide the systems integration for both the WiFi network topology design and implementation, and to remotely manage and support the on-site PacketLogic appliance to ensure the available bandwidth is being utilized in the most efficient and affective manner. “Because WiFi proficient users now can truly tell the difference between a great and mediocre hotspot wireless experience, BTV tasked Summit Technologies with the goal of ensuring the guests will have the best online experience at the airport as an incentive to continue to fly in and out of BTV,” said Johannes Jobst, CTO at Summit Technologies.

Initial rollout will begin in December 2006, and be managed by Summit Technologies, a leading wireless solution provider that has deployed multiple enterprise wireless LANs and hotspot implementations throughout the New England Area.

Summit Technologies to Install public WiFi network in Burlington Airport - October, 2006
Summit Technology has been awarded a three year contract to provide free public WiFi access throughout the Burlington International Airport (BTV) as an amenity to those travelers needing Internet access. Summit’s service will provide toll free 24x7 technical support and ongoing network maintenance. Burlington International Airport has recently undergone a $28 million expansion in order to provide better service to the 1.2 million annual travellers. The deployment of this wireless network is one of several enhancements designed to provide timely and accurate information to all those who pass through.
The network will also provide secured access for the airport tenants such as the airlines and car rental agencies and was designed to allow for expansion out onto the runway and parking garage.
This is Summit’s second airport WLAN implementation. In 2003, Summit was awarded the WLAN installation at Albany International Airport. At the time, it was the only airport worldwide that had wall-to-wall wireless coverage.
Summit Technologies Cisco ATP Partner Certification- Febuary 26, 2006
Summit Technologies has achieved Cisco Advanced Technology Partner (ATP) certification for the Cisco 1500 Outdoor Mesh Access Point and the Cisco Mobile Access Router solutions. ATP certification is offered to a select group of Cisco partners and there are fewer than 50 partners with that certification throughout the United States. The ATP certification enables Summit to design and deploy outdoor mesh WLANs with all of the features and benefits of Cisco’s Unified Architecture.
The Cisco Aironet 1500 Series lightweight outdoor mesh access points provide the security, manageability, reliability and ease of deployment to create high-performance WLANs for outdoor wireless networks. The Cisco Aironet 1500 Series operates with Cisco wireless LAN controllers and Cisco Wireless Control System (WCS) Software, centralizing key functions of wireless LANs to provide scalable management, security, and mobility that is seamless between indoor and outdoor deployments.
A companion product, the Cisco 3200 Series Wireless and Mobile router is a rugged wireless router that offers secure data, voice, and video communication, and supports multiple wired and wireless links, including integrated 802.11b/g and 4.9 GHz wireless technologies. Its latest project calls for the installation of a network in Vermont's State House in Montpelier, which will provide Internet access to 180 legislators, staff and members of the general public. Airpath also is working with MontpelierNet, a community Internet cooperative with a mission to bring affordable broadband to the city, and SoVerNet, a Vermont-based Internet service provider.

The project is being conducted in partnership with MontpelierNet, a community Internet cooperative with a mission to bring affordable broadband to the city, and SoVerNet, a Vermont-based Internet service provider. No financial details of the project were released. Summit will deploy and manage the network. The initial wi-fi deployment will be done in the Vermont State House. The State House network will provide Internet access to 180 legislators, staff and members of the general public.
The link to the State House is part of a larger point-to-multipoint wireless network developed by MontpelierNet to serve the city of Montpelier and local business. The next phase of the MontpelierNet project calls for the expansion of wi-fi service in the central downtown area of Montpelier. With a population of just over 8,000 people, Montpelier is the smallest state capital in the United States.
Airpath provides the management platform for large-scale wi-fi systems in San Francisco, Palo Alto, Calif., San Antonio, Pittsburgh and Nantucket, as well as Vancouver, Toronto and Ottawa.
"Our experience in rolling out large-scale wireless broadband networks is enabling Airpath to make these deployments as routine as possible so we can offer a predictable and dependable outcome at a reasonable cost," said Todd Meyers, CEO and founder of Airpath, in a statement. Summit will deploy and manage the network. Airpath was selected by Summit for its proven capabilities managing large-scale, municipal Wi-Fi networks. "Airpath's software represents the best-of-breed in this industry," said Johannes Jobst, CTO of Summit. "The interface is mature, and its capabilities are powerful".
The initial Wi-Fi deployment will be done in the 146 year-old Vermont State House, where the General Assembly convenes each year from January to May. The State House network will provide Internet access to 180 legislators, staff and members of the general public. Because the State House is an historic building, installation of the wireless equipment was done in close consultation with the curator, David Schultz.

"High-speed Internet access at affordable prices is probably more important to small rural states like Vermont than it is to large metropolitan areas because it's already difficult for businesses to get to larger markets and people to get to information," said Jack Hoffman, director of the Vermont Broadband Council. "The MontpelierNet project and the State House Wi-Fi network is an excellent example of what can be accomplished when local government, state government and the business community work together. Now we just have to replicate this model in many other communities throughout the state."

Summit Technologies of Burlington recently installed a wireless network in one of the buildings for capital one. Our technicians worked through the night to accomplish this job. In some cases the employees didn't even know that there was a change. The switch over was that seamless.
Summit deploys the Largest Wireless Network in Vermont - June 18, 2004
Summit Technologies of Burlington recently installed the first phase of MontpelierNet, a three-tiered project to put the City of Montpelier on the map of wireless municipalities. Summit developed a wireless infrastructure plan that is a blueprint for municipalities throughout Vermont and New England.
By the end of September 2004, all the residents and business people will be able to connect wirelessly to the Internet. Covering up to 10 square miles, the infrastructure will have tremendous impact on the way the people of Montpelier will communicate over Internet: they will now be able to do it anytime and anywhere they want.
